I was very fortunate to get a code for the closed beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls this past weekend. After ruining my non-existent sleep schedule even further to conform to the time slots provided by the event, I can confidently say it was worth it. Similar to my feelings with Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves beta, my first impressions of the game are pleasant.

I cannot watch scary movies to save my life. I am the biggest coward and will purposely close my eyes during scary previews/commercials because a jump scare is coming. It takes a striking premise and talented director to pull me from my comfort zone. Coincidentally, Ryan Coogler is that familiar talent that shows his craft in 2025’s Sinners.
Continue readingIt has been eons since Amazon’s Invincible ended on its third season finale. Many fans of the comic book show have fallen in despair and must be curious about the next set of episodes for season four set to release for 2026. Well have no fear! I know what the next three episodes are for the series after talking to the show runner’s wife who has an uncle who has a younger niece who has a friend who knows a neighbor who knows a gardener who knows a mailman who knows a barista who spoke to Robert Kirkman about the upcoming season. Buckle up for the following episodes!
Continue readingDepending on when you start a series, you might avoid the classics like the plague. Like watching a new blockbuster without realizing it came from a book. I’m not judging, of course, I’m practically projecting even. I used to think watching or reading earlier works was a giant hassle with other mediums of fiction. While I didn’t have this problem with reading/watching older anime as much, it was a hurdle with comics.
Continue readingThe year 2024 passed by too quickly for me. I’m not making this post to make excuses for my lack of writing but rather acknowledge that I have not written all year. My personal issues this year warped my focus and left me uninspired to properly type out my thoughts. I wanted to discuss what I experienced this year but somewhere along the way I lost my ability to clearly illustrate a point. Several topics appeared too much like a critique or drifting too far from my original point.
Continue reading2023 is a good year of gaming for me. I had the chance to play five AAA games while catching up with my ever-endless backlog before the year’s conclusion. The Game Awards are fast approaching leaving me to reflect on those five $79.99 games for contender of game of the year (GOTY). Street Fighter 6 is a shoe-in for best fighter and Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon snuck up on my expectations with its mecha greatness. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 while great, left me with more criticism than praise. Truthfully, my mind was made up in June with my GOTY being Final Fantasy XVI.
Continue readingThe MCU’s last phase four movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, left a mixed impression. Some declare it a mess while others sing the sequel’s praises. Nigel, you might remember him here, and I took the opportunity to watch it on a late Tuesday evening. Well, my first time watching it because Nigel saw it day one with his fresher than fresh comic book t-shirt.

Two weeks ago, I was adamant on not seeing Black Adam due to the horrible taste in my mouth from Thor: Love and Thunder. However, I went to see Hollywood staple, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the new comic book movie. I went with Nigel, one of my best friends, who is more optimistic about comic book movies than my pseudo movie critic self. After watching it, DC’s latest movie is an entertaining ride but ultimately a dumb film. Way better than the MCU’s latest two attempts at movies.
Continue readingAnother year is passing through and coincidentally we are in time for another website update.
As most of you have seen, the updates for the blog are incredibly sporadic. I used to post on a bi-weekly basis but have slowed to months apart without writing anything. I do not regularly post updates on when the next article will be ready because it sounds impractical. Hyping up something before it is finished was never a practice I could use correctly. So instead, I finish my writing and post it when it is done.
With that excuse out of the way, this still points towards the lack of updates, and I offer a solution. A solution titled, QB Quick Thoughts. Self-branding ignored, these quick posts will center around 500 word or less posts. They will cover things that I have recently seen, played, or read. Potentially, they may involve upcoming projects that I may throw my proverbial two cents in. These types of posts will also be more contemporary with current events involving entertainment. They will be similar to my earlier month of anticipation posts but will be way less formal.
These quick thoughts will thankfully not be critiques. Simple ravings of a mad man who revels in overthinking on something that he has watched or played. I plan to stick to my personal motto of not becoming a critic because I could not imagine nitpicking a movie for every single scene and tear it down to give it a score. I tend to do it if verbally off the website but putting the energy to write in the lens of a critic would be annoying for me.
The quick posts are to fill in the gap for future essays about subjects that I care about. And hopefully about subjects you care about too. Short stories will make a return next year as well. I have the concepts that I want to write but of course when coming close to writing the story I get lazy, I mean, delve further into the outlining phase.
Overall, the objective for this blog remains the same. Writing about games, movies, anime, and other fictional entertainment will be the focus. The quick thoughts may have their own section in the future but overall serve as filler for the essays. I am terrible of advertising myself but cannot thank you all enough for taking the time to read my posts. I am excited for the future of writing for this website and appreciate all of you for sticking by my infrequent writing updates.
A sentence that I am fond of saying during 2022 is that I have watched Scarface for the first time. Not reflective of my opening, but this will not be a long-winded analysis of the widely acclaimed 1983 classic. This essay is to address a key section of crime dramas that hits with a formulaic precision regardless of the film, the third act. Relating to the eventual downfall of the characters/organization and twists that cement the finale is the movie’s strongest portion. Whether the gangster movie are classics like New Jack City or Goodfellas, the third act is where it counts. This is the period of the movie that cements its legacy because it illustrates how one can burn too bright.
