Objectively speaking, humanity has already experienced the greatest movie of the 21st century. Filmmaking as an art form has produced innovative works that have outlasted their creators. Whether it would be the powerful performance of 12 Years a Slave or the whimsical adventure of Spirited Away, movies are a timeless pastime. However, there is only one movie that is worthy to be called the greatest in our era. A movie that has influenced future filmmakers and swayed countless reviewers with its power. That movie is Soul Plane.

The Former Bullied Protagonist

The narrative structure of a story hinges on a protagonist. A person propelled by the events of their environment or antagonist/villain that ventures out to meet their goal. Different types of main character range from heroes, antagonists, and anti-heroes certainly stand out. I have countless of heroes that I find interesting but only one category consistently interests me: the former bullied protagonist. A protagonist who once had zero aspirations or goals that evolves after finding their calling. My aim for this post is to explore how this type of character behaves and the elements behind them.

It had been two months into the second semester, and he had already mentally checked out.

Physically, Brandin Milton was at the top of his game. He had the stamina to pull and all-nighter videogame session with his homies and still make it five minutes late to his nine a.m. Bio lab. However, he was beginning to think that his nightly activities were taking a toll on his concentration. First semester was laughable with it is Welcome to College 101 classes and History of Music that he took on a whim. The current semester was showing its true strength when he choose to major in computer science three months prior. Brandin was slammed with countless science and math classes ranging from physics, biology, and trigonometry, the bane of his existence.

Out of all the days for the A/C to die, it had to be on their last gig.

Anthony, the alleged leader of the group, struggled with the cooling unit one last time before he smacked it in defeat. The oak brown 72’ Lincoln Continental Town Car was not a top-of-the-line model anymore, but it got the three gang members of the Royce Club from point A to point B. Much like the older car, Anthony “Ant” Favero felt like he was on his last legs. Despite being at the age of twenty-six, he felt like a dawdling old man. He was Earthborn with medium-width chestnut hair and a small patch of facial hair on his chin.

My Falling Out with Street Fighter

I have always admired fighting games from the late 90’s to early 2000’s era. From the arcade cabinets to the comfort of my PlayStation, fighting games was the genre for me. Early Capcom installments like Rival Schools, or Marvel vs Capcom 2 had me constantly coming back for more. It was not until much later when I was properly introduced to the competitive scene to my beloved genre. I found myself trying to prove myself online in Capcom’s revitalized Street Fighter IV. I had a wonderful journey with Street Fighter and found myself with the revelation that I could go no further.

Soul’s Perspective on Life is Beautiful

I hate to use a common phrase, but Disney and Pixar’s Soul spoke to me. Everyone has a movie that defines how they perceive life and Soul was perfect for the current chapter in mines. I would wager that this animated movie is perfect for an audience caught in life’s many crossroads. Fair warning, I am going to spoil a small bit of content for the movie below. I was heavily looking forward to this movie this month and can safely say that it did not disappoint. Soul takes us on a meaningful journey to discover what it means to live life.

Sub vs Dub: A Fruitless Debate

When presented with two options, humans will always argue over which is better. Apple vs PC, Coca Cola vs Pepsi, white meat vs dark meat, etc. Regarding the entertainment medium, Sub vs Dub to established anime fans is considered life or death. It is the basis for whether you truly experience the content to its fullest or as a fleeting joke never to be revisited. To me, matter of preference has no effect on my viewership. Whether it be subbed or dubbed, whichever enhances my enjoyment will be the winner.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Delay is not the End of The World

The year 2020 is no stranger to being a challenging year to everyone across the world. Shutdowns to potential death have put the global populace in an unprecedented plight. However, there has always been a silver lining to enjoying a pastime or two in these difficult times. Multiple forms of entertainment, including video games, have been released for our enjoyment to temporarily distract from the stir-crazed quarantine periods. From Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons same day release to Sucker Punch’s banger title Ghost of Tsushima. Even so, perhaps the most anticipated game for this year ids CD Projekt’s upcoming title Cyberpunk 2077.
